Critical Infrastructure
Integrated technology where failure carries consequences.
Critical environments require resilient connectivity, controlled access, security visibility and disciplined operational ownership.
What makes it hard
The challenges we are asked to remove.
- Harsh or distributed operating environments
- Strict security and access requirements
- Legacy and modern technology operating together
- High cost of service interruption
- Complex contractor and supplier boundaries

Sector context
What makes critical infrastructure delivery different
Work on assets that cannot stop is governed less by the technology than by the permission to touch it. A change to a live system is normally assessed and approved before any equipment is opened, and the working window is fixed in advance, often inside a planned shutdown. Designers are expected to show what happens if the change fails, and how the site returns to its previous state, before the work is authorised.
Resilience is assessed on demonstrated behaviour rather than on design intent. Independent paths and failover arrangements are expected to have been tested, since one shared cable route can undo a nominally redundant design. Access is controlled physically and logically at the same time, keeping operational systems separated from corporate networks and from contractor equipment brought on site. At handover the operator inherits the asset, so the record set and test evidence carry as much weight as the installation.
