What makes logistics technology delivery different
A distribution building is a difficult radio environment, and it does not stay the same. Attenuation from racking and stock means a survey of an empty warehouse does not describe the site once it is full. A fixed channel plan is no safer: licence-exempt use of parts of the 5 GHz band is conditional on dynamic frequency selection, so an access point detecting radar must leave the channel. Handheld terminals roam constantly, so handover time matters more to a scanning operation than average throughput.
Automated handling equipment brings obligations that sit outside the network. Conveyors and sortation lines are work equipment under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, which require it to be maintained in efficient working order and, where appropriate, to be fitted with suitable means of isolation from its energy sources. Those duties fall on the employer and on anyone controlling the equipment, so cabling inside a running sorter is a plant operation, not a cabling task. Where gatehouse cameras read registration marks, the organisation deciding why and how the images are captured is a controller under UK GDPR, and the lawful basis and retention period belong in the design, not a later review.
